B(l)(e)(e)(n)dings is the result of three years of intensive exploration and collaboration in several regions of Southern Africa (Mozambique, Swaziland, Limpopo, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and the East Coast). The current piece establishes a dialogue between the combination of ancestral forms of music and instruments from Southern Africa with Western electroacoustic forms of music. During the preparation of the project, in May 2018, Luca Forcucci interviewed the American composer Phill Niblock, known for having produced the iconic Arthur Russell’s album World Of Echo. He generously provided footage of rural manual labour shot in the 70’s in South Africa and Lesotho. The films are diffused during the concerts over two screens.
Luca Forcucci’s research observes the perceptive properties of sound, space and memory. Luca Forchcci holds a PhD in Sonic Arts from De Montfort University and a MA in Sonic Arts from Queens University of Belfast. He studied electroacoustic music with the Swiss composer Rainer Boesch in Geneva.
